My shop began in October 2010 in a particularly long lull between theatre work. Sick of my boring ‘pays the rent’ day job and needing a way to stay sane I started making Christmas decorations and opened my Etsy shop. Over the next year I branched out into bags and purses, jewellery and homewares, and have continued to develop my range whilst building my profile through crafts fairs and retail outlets.
My work is driven by a love of textiles and a passion for details. Each piece is marked out by surprising details, unusual pattern combinations and the quality of finish. I’m really keen to emphasize the handmade aspect of my work and use some really traditional skills in a new way. It’s a sort of ‘pick and mix’ approach, resulting in an abundance of colour and texture.
Inspired by historic fashions, my work in theatre and classic British textiles, I take traditional dressmaking techniques and decorative finishes and use them as a vehicle for colour and print. For my core collection of Liberty Knot jewellery I stole details from 19th Century military dress and paired them with delicate Tana Lawn prints to create modern, statement pieces.
